Chapter 5

Note: This was the one that was having posting problems. Had to create new post.
After his death the Helvetii did nevertheless what they had decidedon, to go away from their territories. When they thought they were prepared for this engagement, they set fire to all their towns, the number was twelve, four hundred villages, and the homes that remaine. They burnt up the corn, except what they carried with them. After that destroying the hope of returning home, they were more ready for passage of all dangers. They ordered every one to carry away from home provisions for three months for himself. They persuaded their neighbors the Rauraci, and the Tulingi, and the Latobrigi, to go on the plan. After burning down their towns and villages, to set out with them. And they bring together themselves as confederates the Boii, who had lived across the Rhine River, and crossed over into assaulting Norican territory.

1. The Helvetian War- In 58 B.C. the Helvetii got up out of their province and attempted to cross all 360,000 of themselves across the heart of Gaul and into Spain.
2. ut...exeant- in application with id means to go forth
3. ea res- towns, fortified or capable of defense
4. uti- the older form of ut which is common throughout Caesar's writings
